Word for the day: "Just a Moment"

II Corinthains 4:17 & 18 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of Glory, 18 while we do not look at things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.Sisters and Brothers, I hope and trust you had a weekend that has empowered you to face the week that is before us. Today's word challenges us to view our experiences in life with the lens of eternity. A common phrase we use in our interactions with one another in this earthly life is "Just a moment" however; this phrase is really a perspective that comes from Heaven and one that can really define our lives here on earth. The truth of the matter is our lives and our experiences in this season can be summarized in the context of Kingdom as being "Just a moment"Wasn't this the phrase of choice for the Apostle Paul? V17 " Our light afflictions, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight in glory " (NKJV, emphasis mine) At this point in the apostles life and ministry, he had been beaten times without number, often in danger of death. five times, he writes, " I received from the Jews thirty-nine lashes. Three times I was beaten with rods, once I was stoned, three times I was shipwrecked, a night and a day I have spent in the deep" (II Corinthians 11:23-25). He goes on to refer to life threatening situations, wilderness wanderings, and exposure to the cold, attacks, hunger, and thirst. These in Paul's words, are light afflictions to be endured for "Just a moment" Wow what a testimony to us in this present time.What if we viewed our trials, troubles, and torments, with this same attitude? What if we saw our tough times from the lens of eternity meaning it won't be long now whatever it is that you are experiencing. Earthly perspectives says "Life is short get out" But God's eternal wisdom, however says "Life is short stay in" The brevity of life in God grants power to fight through, not an excuse to bail out. The question of will your problems pass? No guarantee they will, will your pain cease? Perhaps so, perhaps not. But remember the promise of today's passage V17 " Our light afflictions, which is but for a moment, and there will be Glory on the other side of your moment". This is the truth we the children of God have to look forward to!Prayer: O Lord God, my strength , as this week unfolds, make my life a daily witness, declaring in word, deed and attitude that Jesus is alive, Lord, and that you see the afflictions of your children and they are only a moment away from seeing Glory! in Jesus name Amen.Elder Baker
