Word for the day: "God is our Buckler"

Psalm 18:30(NKJV) As for God, His way is perfect; The word of the LORD is proven; He is a shield to all who trust in Him. A buckler was a small shield that warriors wore on their arms that provided protection in warfare. It was a defensive weapon that protected them from the thrusts of swords and spears in hand-to-hand combat. To the psalmist, the Lord was like a buckler because He shielded him from the harsh and savage attacks of his enemies. As you can see God fits in every aspect of our lives and serves His people well, we just have to see our God in the proper context. The Assyrian bronze shield from the eight century BC, gives a snapshot of what the “Buckler looks like in real life. It was easy for the people in Bible times to understand God as a “Buckler” or shield since they were used to seeing them worn by the armies of their time. Can you see God as a “Buckler” in you and your family life today?According to the writer of Proverbs, God is also “a buckler to them that walk uprightly” (Proverbs 2:7). Our God promises protection is a significant aspect of His provision for His children if we would only just trust in Him and follow His commands. It has been my experience that in the times I haven’t trusted God and followed His commands, Our God still extends the provision of protection each day of my life. How about you? I know My God is a “Buckler” in my defense always! Have a great day living in the protection of God.Elder Baker
