Word for the day: "Peer Pressure"
I PETER 2:9 (NKJV) But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. You could make the argument that we live in a troubled society. And if that’s the case, then embracing the values and priorities of our society would make us, by virtue of definition, troubled as well, I’m just saying, wouldn’t it? Then why do we give in to the pressure to conform to those values and priorities that lead us to a path in life that conforms? We often refer to it as peer pressure, or at least that’s what it was called when I was growing up.Few things in life come easier than giving in to the pressure to be like everyone else. And even fewer things are more dangerous. Re-sistance requires strength and self assurance. As we develop a relationship with God not a religion with God, we dare to be unique and yes different. Are you one who would rather follow the path called conformity? or do you dare to be antithetical in your character? Self assured that you know God accepts you and loves you just as you are. You don’t need to wear the latest fashions, have the hair color and style of the day, or drive the make and model of car you think will satisfy that yearning to be in the in-crowd.There’s truly only one thing that satisfies, and it is a right relationship with God. Today’s message is meant for all, but the Lord has special purpose in this message for the youth, young adults, those that are single, those living with disabilities, and our military service men and women.Elder Baker
