Word for the day: "Who is Jesus"
Matthew 16:15 (GNT) “What about you?” he asked them. “Who do you say I am?”16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”Talking about Jesus elicits many responses from people. Some are outraged by Him. Others adore Him as the Son of God and Forgiver of sins. Some think he’s a prophet or humanitarian or even a great moral teacher. Others remain disinterested and indifferent. What others think isn’t important. What do you think? Who do you think Jesus is? Or does it even matter?Quite often people choose to not answer this question. But, no answer is an answer. It’s the most serious question in life, and it deserves the most serious consideration. The most important question that anyone has to answer is, “Who is Jesus Christ?” Or, as He put it himself, v15 “Who do people say the Son of Man is”. How you answer that question determines your faith, and your fate. As C. S. Lewis wisely observed, if Jesus Christ wasn’t a self-deluded lunatic, and he wasn’t a blatant liar, there’s only one other possible alternative: Jesus Christ was God himself. Finally, what does it mean to all who believe in Jesus? We receive grace and peace through Jesus Christ; we receive a commission to serve him in this life; and we must be set apart to him, sanctified, for he is our Lord and our God. Then we know unequivocally that Jesus is the Divine Son of God even as the Apostle Peter v16“You are the Christ, Son of the living God” If Jesus is not the divine, eternal Son of God, of one substance with the Father, then all Christian worship of him is idolatrous. But if he is the true and living Lord, then all worship must be in Christ Jesus. Who is Jesus Christ to you; lunatic, liar, or Lord? The Great Scholar C.S. Lewis describes Jesus as the Divine Son of God:Quote from C.S. Lewis complete signature classics p50-51, “A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would be either be a lunatic on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You make your choice. Either this man was, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. Or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come up with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”Elder Baker
