Word for the day "The Lord's Discipline"

Hebrews 12:5 (NIV) And have you completely forgotten this word of encouragement that addresses you as a father addresses his son? It says, “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,6 because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son.”(Son is also inclusive of daughters)Sisters and brothers many people have an incorrect view of God’s reaction to our sin. They think that when they commit sin, the next step for God concerning their sin is to discipline them. Many of us feel that God will then be on a mission to get us. We can at times embrace the notion that if we have walked away from God, so now the Lord will pay us back. Have you ever thought God would get even and settle the score on your sin?This view or perception misses the whole point of God’s discipline in our life. God doesn’t discipline us to pay us back, but the Lord’s discipline of His children is to bring us back to our senses and the life we were saved for.One of the most unloving things God could do would be to allow you to live in sin and operate under the illusion that you are still close to Him. Conversely, one of the most loving things God can do is to bust you in your sin. To make you realize just how far away you are from him. To get you to see just how far you have drifted away, and how desperately you need to come back home.And many times God will discipline us. He will accept your momentary pain for your eternal pleasure. He doesn’t have a vendetta against “God is madly in love with you” as Theologian C.S. Lewis would say. Trust me today the Lord is not trying to settle scores, or trying to pay us back. God’s wrath is satisfied; the score was settled on the cross.What payment does He have to gain from us that Jesus hasn’t already given to Him? If you’re experiencing that right now, God doesn’t hate you, The Lord loves you like none other can compare. He is just trying to bring you back home and that’s where you belong.
