Word for the day "Spiritualists, Psychics, and Mediums oh my!"
Leviticus 20:6 (NASB) As for the person who turns to mediums and to spiritists, to play the harlot after them, I will also set My face against that person and will cut him off from among his people
Today’s post is prompted by an article I read a few years ago:
The craving for esoteric, “extra” knowledge in our culture was starkly illustrated to me when two conferences, both open to the public, were recently held in Pasadena, California.
One was a major world conference on international missions and about 600 people attended. At the same time, a New Age conference was being conducted nearby, and more than 40,000 people showed up!
That’s our society today. People don’t want to hear what God has to say. They want information and direction from someone else who “knows”: a psychic, a channeler, a palm-reader, a card reader, or the spirit of a dead friend or relative.
All you have to do is change the wording from medium to channeler and demon to spirit guide and a gullible society will readily accept it!
The Scriptures are very clear on the subject of seeking knowledge and direction for our lives from anyone but God.
We are about as far away from that stance on the purveyors of psychic and spiritual advice as we can be. We have people channeling on TV and radio programs and they’re considered celebrities.
I read recently that more women in Los Angeles consult spiritualists than professional counselors.
You can attend a psychic fair in practically any city in our land and get a personal spiritual “reading.”
The reader is either a fake or a spiritual medium who enters a trance and seemingly receives instruction for you from the spiritual world.
Far from being seen as a blight on society, these people are often revered as highly as doctors and ministers for their “expertise.” How do you feel about this message today?
The Bible provides a great perspective concerning this matter of spiritualism.
We know that Satan or a demon cannot possess someone who has the Spirit of God in them.
God the Holy Spirit is greater than Satan or any demon. The Apostle John wrote, “You are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:19).
Satan has his own ministers, and they do an incredible job of imitating teachers and preachers.
So much so that it’s difficult to tell them apart, but as for the Spiritualist movement, it’s not that hard to see that it’s wrong to try and communicate with the dead.
They may reach someone or something alright, but they might not be who they think they are the story is found in (I Samuel 28: 5-15) worth reading about King Saul looking to a spiritualist for the answers to his destiny.
Point to ponder
Let me assure you that Satan’s powers are very real, and there are real demons that work for him to accomplish what he wants on this earth. Even though Spiritualists and Psychics will claim that there is no such thing as a devil, they are still working for him.
Don’t allow yourself to be sucked in by these “experts” no matter how socially acceptable they may be. Nothing is condemned more by God in Scripture than false guidance. All the wisdom and knowledge you need is available in your relationship with God and His Word.
Prayer:
Father God, forgive us for oftentimes seeking guidance from sources outside Your authority. We recommit ourselves to renew our minds through Your Word, In Jesus name Amen!
