Beloved Leaders,
The fundamental leadership challenge for your life is learning to take responsibility for your own journey. Yes, your first ability is learning how to take responsibility for yourself. Embracing this principle of taking responsibility is a cornerstone of your leadership evolution.
IT’S ALWAYS BEST TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT IN YOUR LIFE’S JOURNEY.
A new life in Christ does not excuse past obligations or erase the ongoing consequences of past sins. We, as people of God, must embrace and make amends for our past and even current miscues with others. Forgiving ourselves is one means of moving forward in the Lord. Likewise, before you can move ahead, you must face any unfinished business of your past as best you can.
This may include facing up to some regretful behavior in your life. You could have participated in unscrupulous schemes or quick-fix solutions to complex problems that didn’t work.
TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS IS ALWAYS A GROWTH STEP.
While you can be certain that God will meet you where you are, the Lord calls you to take responsibility for whatever sins may have brought you to whatever circumstances you're presently in. As one Forbes author pointed out, someone who takes responsibility for their actions is an accountable individual, and here is what that may look like in action on the job:
You recognize and own up to your part of what is occurring.
If your message hurts someone, you must be willing to examine how your communication may have been damaging.
You don't blame others when you're at fault.
You don't make excuses for why things are happening.
You don't transfer all the responsibility (or all the failure) onto your team or subordinate.
If you continually miss deadlines or essential project parameters, you don't pretend that it is all out of your control.
If your employee or team is failing, you don't stick your head in the sand and stay in denial—you proactively take action.
If your relationships are faltering, you’re open to seeing how you’re contributing to the challenges and conflict.
POINT TO PONDER
Once you accept responsibility and ownership of your past, present, and future, God will help you move ahead. However, remember the Lord will do it his way, not yours. Have an amazing day!
