Word for the day “The procrastination dilemma.”
Ecclesiastes 5:4 (HCSB) When you make a vow to God, don’t delay fulfilling it, because He does not delight in fools. Fulfill what you vow.
Beloved leaders,
Perhaps today’s message on procrastination will add value to your life and leadership journey. It has been said, “Procrastination is the thief of time. Year after year it steals precious opportunities from us all.
TIME TO MOVE THE PROCRASTINATION HABIT OUT OF YOUR LIFE TO FULFILL YOUR DESTINY.
When turbulent times arrive, it’s easy (and tempting) to avoid those challenging tasks that you would prefer to avoid altogether. But the habit of procrastination has all kinds of destiny-destructive implications:
Important work goes unfinished. Your valuable energy is wasted in the process of putting off things. This leaves you feeling unfulfilled and regretful. There is nothing more self-diminishing than allowing procrastination to control your life.
Ask yourself what you are waiting for or, more accurately, what you are afraid of. And why?
As you examine the emotional setbacks that have blocked your path, you may discover that perhaps you are waiting for the “perfect” moment, that instant in time when you feel neither afraid nor anxious.
But in truth, perfect moments like these are few and far between (Philippians 4:6-7). One of the reasons I believe you are reading this message today is because it’s time to confront the areas of procrastination in your life.
IT’S TIME TO EMBRACE THAT WITH GOD, YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH ANYTHING IN YOUR LIFE.
Stop waiting for the perfect moment and focus on finding the right moment to take action. Then, trust God and get busy. When you do this, you’ll discover that you and the Lord, working together, can accomplish great things and that you can accomplish them sooner rather than later.
I don’t know about you, but I have some things in my life that I must move on from right now; how about you? Once you acquire the courage to do what needs to be done when it needs to be done, you’ll avoid untold trouble, worry, and stress.
Learn to defeat procrastination by paying less attention to your fears and more attention to your opportunities. God has created a world that is replete with procrastinators and rewards men and women who “do it right now.” In other words, life doesn’t wait on any of us people of God, and neither should you. Procrastination has many faces.
Sometimes, it’s simply choosing pleasure over commitment and discipline. At other times, it’s an attempt to avoid something negative or a potential conflict. And sometimes, it’s paralyzed by overwhelming life challenges.
POINTS TO PONDER
Procrastination can also extend beyond your professional life, affecting other important parts of your personal life. Not being proactive about that harmful symptom or not being checked medically leaves an unknown illness untreated. Avoiding a difficult conversation only prolongs the existing conflict.
Delaying an important destiny decision, like ending a relationship, making a serious commitment, going back to school, engaging in your own spiritual development, or finally changing your career.
Procrastination's impact can lead to living below your potential, purpose, and the Lord’s plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11 NKJV). All I’m saying is, let’s go; you’ve been in denial and waiting much too long.
Review and answer these critical procrastination questions:
Is it time to confront your tendency to procrastinate?
What areas in your life are you procrastinating?
Do you make excuses for not doing what needs to be done?
Do you know how to get started in prioritizing what’s next in your life?
Do you need a coach or mentor in your life to help you?
Now is the time to eliminate procrastination from your life!
Prayer: Dear Lord, when we are confronted with things that need to be done, give us your courage and wisdom to do them now, not later. Amen.
